Well, livejournal, did you miss me?

I am lame. It is Saturday night and I am posting on livejournal....but all the while I'm drinking wine - that = classy and less lame.

I am officially a Minnesotan again. I moved in the last weekend of July (with the help of Mr. Waddell - thanks sir!) The apartment is pretty killer. Stop by and I'll give you some candy.

Started the new job on August 6th. I'm digging Northfield and the school - my office is finally beginning to look like an office...it helps that I finally cleaned. The RAs get here next Saturday so I have a few more days in a big empty building by myself - both creepy & nice.

Purchased Rascal Flatts tickets today - woohoo!

Here's my nephew & godson - Adrian Douglas

I'm sure there should be more news...but sadly, I'm not so sure there is.

~attend dance in hot new dress (check)
~meet random guy with nintendo wii obsession (check)
~encourage friends to make bad decisions (check)
~take random home only to fall aslepp (check)
~wake up saturday morning to random watching HGTV (check)
~spend saturday watching television (check)
~call friends and talk about avoiding homework (check)
~do homework
~rearrange living room furniture (check)
~luncheon with ErinBeth (check)
~more homework avoidance (check)

it was a fairly eventful/uneventful weekend. and now I'm going to go avoid homework by checking my email again...or maybe playing on facebook. :)

drugs [Sep. 19th, 2006|07:46 pm]
[mood | annoyed]
[music |jack johnson something]

I am not advocating for drugs to run rampant....but I have a cold and I just need to say that meth has ruined the wonderful world of cold medicines by being evil. This new shit is not only annoying to purchase (give the fauxpharmasist this plastic card) but it isn't near as effective as the old stuff.

I just want my drugs back.

The craziest thing happened to me on Friday. We just started RA training so I'm pretty busy, but I'm a good Hall Coordinator so I woke up early on Friday morning and baked cinnamon rolls for my lovely staff. So it's about 8:02am and my RA says that there's a labtop sitting on the mailboxes outside. I'm all "Really? Let's investigate." So we do (three RAs and me). Sure enough there's a labtop just sitting on the mailboxes on the south end of the building. We're about to bring it inside and call the campus lost & found people when another RA says it looks like the old labtop that he has in his car trunk; he checks his trunk and it's true - his labtop isn't there. You see he generally leaves his car unlocked ecause it has an old security system that always goes off. He just never leaves anything of value in it, in fact this labtop hasn't even been turned on in over a year because he lost the power cord and hasn't really cared to look for another one but can't bring himself to through it away. Anyways, so we realize that his car has been broken into so we all start walking back to the office to call DPS to file a report when I see that the driver's side rear window in my car is down. Yep, the bastards broke into my car too. And it looks like they tried to steal it...attempted to rip off the license plate...and couldn't steal so they got angry and...set the passenger seat on fire. Yes, you read correctly - SET MY PASSENGER SEAT ON FIRE! I just wish I could upload photos to so I could show you the charred seat remains. It smells real bad too. Hopefully I can find a cheap seat at the junkyard....at least until I have some time to car shop.

Thought y'all would like that story...because even though it sucks, it does make for a good story!

Friday
*worked 9-4:00 in the Career Center reorganizing the peer advisor manual. speaking of career center business - turtgirl, when's your resume going to grace my presence?
*had glass of wine while chatting with Shug & Allison on the phone...lead to all of the sudden bottle of wine was gone
*went bowling with 7 homosexual men and a lesbian. scored 84 and 55. tried to convince casey to give me some medical marijuana

Saturday
*farmer's market - fresh veggies = delicious
*cooked stir fry with fresh veggies = delicious
*watched Speak & Prime
*free movie on the pentacrest - Field of Dreams with Dave & Rich, Mark, Amy, Borst & Kathy. favortie part was when shoeless joe says "is this heaven" and ray says "no, it's iowa". the crowd nerdily cheered. i chuckled. also enjoyed that they go from iowa to boston to minnesota (since i was sharing a blanket with an iowan and a bostoner - we said a little go team!)

Sunday
*spent three hours at the lake - thank goodness for 50 spf

weird travels on the travel channel is just another show about da vinci code tonight.... [May. 25th, 2006|11:02 pm]

[music |adam strumming a guitar (badly-ish)]

The rodent: I do not have a paid account so it will not allow me to show you the picture I took last night...So last night Libby calls me because she has a giant bottle of wine in her car that she wants to give me. (I do not know why...in fact, i never got around to asking...) So I walked outside to meet her and there was this weird thing about the size of a mouse waddling in the parking lot. So when Libby pulled up I jumped in front of the car so she wouldn't run it over. But when the lights shown at it - it totally freaked out and started blindly waddling faster in random directions. As it turns out - it was a mole (which explains the blindlike actions). I had never seen one close up. I took a picture with my camera phone and then Libs and I used a paper towel to lead it back to the grassy area.

Today I covered the desk to our desk clerk in Mayflower could have a lunch break and I got to looking at the Iowa City/Coralville visitors guide. I decided that there are a lot of cool things around IC the I have not yet experienced. So I have set a goal of actively pursueing full activities as mentioned in the guide.

So tonight I went to the UI Museum of Art. They have a lot of really cool works there including an amazing Jackson Polluck that has reclining chairs in front of it. I was amused.

That's the story.

Word.

[music |journey ~ don't stop believing]

my last post was scrutinized due to my musical selection. i would like to state for the record that there is nothing wrong with bread. they are a perfectly good band. in fact, i just burned their greatest hits for my friend and she was highly appreciative.

the students are gone and the drinking is commencing nicely. it seems as though i have drank more in the last week than the past semester...take right now for instance...i'm sitting here after having had a few glasses of wine (we couldn't help it - it's half price bottles at the wine cafe on tuesdays).

oooo some fun new news - nickel creek is playing here next weekend with ben lee for FREE! ah, iowa city you do not disappoint me with your summer music series!

I am a terrible updater in the respect that i rarely update. school is a pain in my butt, but i still love love love it. this semester i have added a practicum (10 hours in another student service office on campus) so my schedule is booked...however, there always seems to be room for beer. which i would say is a happy thing.

speaking of beer...a month and a half or so ago we brewed some beer and two weeks ago we bottled it and in about another two week we're going to drink it. this is very exciting to me because i've never been part of an alcohol making adventure before. i'll let you know how it tastes.

saw ben markl last week. he yelled at me for not emailing him...okay, it wasn't really yelling but more like disappointed voice. he just wants benjamin54's information and not to really talk to me...i'll make a pro & con list about whether or not to remember this time...since i won't see him again until june.

i quit smoking. no for real i did. i even bought myself a coach purse to celebrate. it's beautiful.

a'ight - i need to go make some coffee before i head over the the college of medicine admin building.

you know i really adore comments on my posts so....ask me anything - 3 questions...i'll be as hones as the internet deems!

tomorrow is my last "final" - it's a presentation. i need to practice yet tonight...we'll see if that actually happens! i have some other work to do in the office - eek! i'm thinking i should tell my secretary that she can be late to work tomorrow if she goes to java house and gets me coffee on her way here. i'm totally going to call her tomorrow on her way in.

i'm baking tonight. my apartment smells so yummy like cinnamon. so holidayish.

tomorrow is crazy pat's holiday shindig. i bought some cheap snowpants at wal-mart today in preparation. now all i have to do is wander around my apartment putting together a white elephant gift. i think i have a festive hat that i got for my birthday (which was had a white elephant touch so it's totally okay to re-gift it). i can't wait - we're going sledding as well and i'm certain we'll construct a snowperson because this snow is PERFECT for building things! i'm just thankful that i don't have to drive to work...my commute is ten feet and i'm still late half the time!

sorry about the uppity bragging about my commute. if it's any consolation i still in a residence hall...

the fabulous life of... [Dec. 11th, 2005|08:12 pm]
[mood | cheerful]
[music |architecture in helsinki ~ owls go]

hey folks! i've got plenty of exciting news. well, not really. i'm officially a single gal again. i'm expecting the masses of date invites to start pouring in any moment now.

i need to do laundry - because i leave for vegas in a mere 7 days! woo hoo!

i have 1 reflection paper, 1 presentation, and 1 big mother f-ing cognitive final left and i'm done with my first semester of grad school. thank the lord - i'm sick of reading for school. i have a list of books just waiting to be read over break. i'm so stoked!

i've been knitting up a storm with the holiday season fast approaching. i've already finished 2 hats, 3 scarfs and an iPod cozy. i still have 2 scarfs and another iPod cozy to knit.

this weekend was pretty darn fun. friday i went shopping with Jennie and we bought ourselves hair care products. we also bought some gifts for people - got her boyfriend a great sweater from the gap that the lady forgot to deactivate the alarm-setter-off thingie so we beeped. then went back and she said she deactivated it but then we continued to beep every time we went in or out of a set of those beepy things in every store after that. at one point an old couple looked at us as if we were hoodlums. grrrr.

friday night went to narnia. i loved it. was shocked that susan was not a blonde (as she was in pbs movies). i love movie at coralridge mall because they have ICEEs and i love them.

saturday night was alicia's XXX-citing birthday party. everyone was to come dressed as a porn character. there were some fabulous costumes there - santa's little helper, the landlord, pizza deliver guy, milf, hugh hefner, dirty teacher, farmer's daughter, etc etc. boogie nights played in the background while alicia "blew" out the candles on her penis cake. bill decorated well - there were condoms every where. at one point there was even a game of spin the bottle. lastly we headed to the bar to dance. all in all it was a total blast.

sunday = boring. haven't been very productive...though i have some time and i really do want to finish that last reflection paper tonight. but first i need to watch grey's anatomy. i did go to the study-a-thon in the business building (the john pappajohn business building...i just needed to say that because i love that his name is john pappajohn). i love free pizza and hot cocoa and hanging out with some of the IBA kids. (IBA = Iowa Biosciences Advantage program, it's where i'm doing my practicum next semester and i've been trying to meet the peops in the program hence my study-a-thon visit)

so that's that. is it wrong that instead of writing that paper i think i'm going to pour myself a glass of wine, watch tv and knit? good, i don't think so either.

queen bees need love too [Nov. 21st, 2005|10:51 pm]
[mood | cheerful]
[music |fiona apple - ugly girl]

it has been forever. i wish i could say that something magnificent had happened in the meantime...alas, there is not. well, things have happened, but nothing that needs reporting.

i went to a conference in wisconsin. it was really fun to see a lot of people that i know that work in university housing. pretty cheesy, i realize, but housing folks can be so much fun - especially when we get out of the college setting and into a hotel full of more people who are happy to be away from the college setting. much beer was drunk over the course of the three nights there. i did some much needed skanky dancing with a guy named...hmmmm...what was his name? i want to say it started with a g...i'll ask erinbeth tomorrow, she knew him from when she worked at eastern illinois. i also got in quality jocelyn time. damn i miss that lady. overall - it was super good times.

last weekend my family came to visit. doug and cindy just stayed for the day on saturday - it was fun showing them around campus and walking the ped mall. saturday night the folks stayed at my place and went to bed at around 10. i was bored so i went over to mark's and watched aladin. it had been eons since i had watched that movie. sunday was mark's birthday and being as his family is far far away and my family is very nice we took him out for a birthday lunch at the olive garden. damn i love the olive garden.

tuesday i had a "quiz" in my intro to student services class. "quiz" um, yeah right! it was a test, but luckily i was fairly prepared. i guess we'll see next week when i get the results.

last thursday i was one of those people. my hall council hosted a little pre-potter party where they made t-shirts and ate pizza while watching the third film. yes, then i was one of those people who went to the midnight showing of harry potter - and hotdamn! it was worth it. there was a group of ten of us - so we had to get there early. got home around 3 am.

friday was busy busy busy. i had a few judicial hearings and an interview with someone who wants to work in my building next year.

saturday i was lazy and opted to not go to the gophers/hawkeye game. i probably should have at least gone down to tailgate, but my apartment was so warm and outside, well wasn't. instead i went to younkers community day sale and then got a hair cut - i now have some semblance of bangs = fabulous!

that's all she wrote.

on love [Nov. 3rd, 2005|10:10 pm]
[mood | romantic...and cheesy]

it is very possible that every notion i've had about love or the nature of love is wrong. on a constant quest to be a whole person i've bought into a societal lie. perhaps "lie" is too strong a word...it's more a misnomer. i don't really know what i'm supposed to aspire to...and i'm quite sure i shouldn't be asking anyone but myself about my aspirations. i feel like i'm a romantic - quirky in my romanticism, but a romantic nonetheless. i'm caught in a world with an exaggerated unrealistic portrayal of love - what is should - how it is expressed - even the pace at which its attained and its long range reliability. is it wrong to have an unrealistic vision of fairytale happiness? Am i merely setting myself up for a beautiful failure? i don't expect happiness to be handed to me - not in reality. but am i wrong to assume that i deserve fantastic passion? i really don't think it wrong. though i do know i have unrealistic expectations. i almost don't value the process - i just want results. it's almost a terrible wonderful thing to know what you want. a blessing and a curse - to be trite. why must trite be a reoccurring word choice in respects to love. love isn't trite. it's amazing. and all i want is to be amazed. amaze me.

When did "My LJ" become an option on the menu? [Nov. 1st, 2005|11:17 pm]
[mood | whispy doo!]
[music |joni mitchell - help me]

so it seems that i have not journaled in awhile. haven't had much to say i suppose.

friday (was bummed that i couldn't trek to minnesota for ben and curt's because i'm sure it was kickass)...i'm really trying to recount what i did...i got a haircut and dyed it brown (with some pretty red stripes). then i hung out in my apartment watching cheesy movies - watched the original fever pitch (based on the hornby novel and starring the lovable colin firth. yum).

halloween party was saturday and much was fun. ended up going to aaron and erika's house. there was a keg. there was jungle juice. there were peops is some great costumes - and if i knew how to do pictures on livejournal i would. dave was a fairy. mark was a republican. i went as punky brewster. jennie went as mario (much like cara and robert)...though the best part of that would be when she fell down the stairs and jamal sang the "when mario dies" song from the game. it was hilarious.

sunday i spent doing homework. which is what i still do most the time. i'm so fun.

had a bit of a mark relapse last week. but all has returned to normal...and by normal i mean we're just friends. i blame the stress of our cognitive development exam.

that's all for now folks

I don't how i feel about mercy being a component, but the rest are nice.

Been crazy busy and exceptionally homesick lately. i miss all your ugly faces. oh, wait...that didn't sound very nice. but it's true. i've been jonesing for a minnesota adventure, but can't seem to find the time.

not a whole lot new around these parts. school school school and living in the residence halls. a few drunken adventures here and there. but overall fairly boring. tonight is karoke at the VFW (which is always a slamming good time) but i can't go unless i finish some homework first...which is why i'm typing n livejournal...hmmmmm.

okay...i'm running to get some food. then i will totally get to work on that paper. honest.

hugs and puppies.
